Athletes excited by the prospect of a fully inclusive sports experience can now sign up for EuroGames Cardiff 2027.

The first registration phase has opened for the LGBTIQ+ multi-sport event, which will be held in the U.K. for the first time next summer. More than 5,500 athletes are expected to participate.

Most of the 38 sports on the programme are available to join in the initial phase, with the rest due to be added in the next few weeks. The registration portal can be accessed here.

Scheduled for 14 to 17 July 2027, and delivered by Pride Sports Cymru, the event in Cardiff will be the 23rd edition of EuroGames.

While its focus is on breaking down barriers related to sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, or sex characteristics, there is also a commitment to providing wide-ranging accessibility and a welcoming environment.

That includes transgender and non-binary athletes being supported to participate in the category in which they feel most comfortable. The gender policy is available to read in full on the EuroGames website.

Meanwhile, an Outreach fund is available to help subsidise travel and registration costs for athletes who might otherwise be unable to attend.

Lou Englefield, director of Pride Sports Cymru, said: “All of us on the EuroGames team are so excited for this major moment, as athletes begin to register for Cardiff 2027.

“This event represents a wonderful opportunity for LGBTIQ+ inclusion in sports, particularly for the trans community. We are proud to be showcasing not only our beautiful capital city in Wales, but also our values of respect and integrity.”

In line with the event’s commitment to accessibility, parasports are fully integrated into the schedule. Competitors can sign up for wheelchair tennis and accessible sailing now, while registration for boccia is slated to open in the near future.

There is more to Cardiff 2027 than just the athletic events. In the two days before competition, the city will host a global human rights and sport conference, titled ‘Beyond Imagination’.

This forum will bring together activists, academics, and athletes to discuss and advance LGBTQI+ inclusion.

Members of the Cardiff Foxes will help to organise one of the running events at EuroGames 2027.

Participants making plans for their visit can already access travel information and a wide range of accommodation packages directly through the official website.

Options cater to various budgets, including affordable, centrally-located student accommodation, ensuring athletes remain close to both the competition venues and the entertainment options in the heart of the city.

Athletes, coaches, and allies are encouraged to secure their places early during this first registration phase.
