A five-a-side women’s football tournament will be held in Birmingham on July 13 – and players are needed!
The enthusiasm surrounding the Women’s World Cup will be extended in Birmingham this month by ‘Shoot Out Stigma’, a five-a-side tournament for women.
The event will be held at Powerleague in Aston on Saturday 13 July (starts 12pm) and promises to be a fun, football-filled afternoon – and there’s still time for you to be a part of it!
‘Shoot Out Stigma’ will provide a platform for aspiring footballers to build the confidence and motivation to participate, whether with their existing friends or through joining a team.
The summer get-together will also give those who are more regular footballers the opportunity of a kickabout during the off-season, in a safe and welcoming environment.
“Being women ourselves, we feel passionately about empowering other women and due to the stigma around females in sport still being so raw, we wanted to incorporate this into our mission to shoot out stigma,” said the tournament organisers.
“We are supporting the ‘This Girl Can’ campaign, whose research shows that many women are put off taking part in physical activity due to a fear of judgment.
“This may be about the way they feel they look when they exercise, that they feel they’re not good enough to join in, or that they should be spending more time on their families, studies or other priorities.”
‘Shoot Out Stigma’ are urging women in the Birmingham area – and those within travelling distance – to come along and get involved.
Here’s a quick Q&A with more information…
Q: What if I don’t have at least 5 players?
A: Still enter a team, we have many individuals contact us that struggle for a team, we can help allocate players to teams.
Q: How old do I have to be?
A: ‘Shoot Out Stigma’ is a women’s tournament, therefore the target audience is 18+. However, we can accept 16+. If you are under 18, we will require a responsible adult present on the day!
Q: Are you only holding one tournament?
A: Saturday 13th July 2019 is our debut tournament. We want you to help us structure and plan our future – this may be creating a ‘Shoot Out Stigma’ local league within the Midlands, or expanding to further cities for seasonal tournaments. But this is just the start!
