Out to Swim, the UK’s leading LGBTQ+ swimming club, is celebrating success at the recent Swim England National Awards.
The club was awarded the prestigious Club of the Year title, an Inclusion Impact Award, and celebrated the achievement of Waterpolo Development Coach of the Year for Joe O’Connor.
The presentations were made at a gala evening held at Birmingham University’s Great Hall in late November.
Out to Swim, a national charity, is a unique organization dedicated to providing local clubs in Brighton, Bristol and London which create a safe and inclusive space for LGBTQ+ people and their allies to enjoy the benefits of aquatic sports.
The club offers a variety of programs, including social swims, training sessions, and competitive swimming, to cater to individuals of all abilities and experience levels.
Out to Swim recently celebrated its 30th anniversary as an organisation, topped 700 members for the first time and is hoping to be joined by even more new clubs across the country soon.
“We are incredibly honored to be recognised by Swim England with these awards,” said Matthew Bazeley-Bell, Chair of Out to Swim.
“We strive to create a welcoming and supportive environment where everyone feels comfortable and empowered to participate in aquatic sports.”
Michelle Weltman, Head of Aquatics, commented: “These achievements reflect the hard work and dedication of our members, volunteers, and coaches.”
Inclusion in sport is crucial for promoting physical and mental well-being, fostering social connections, and breaking down barriers.
Out to Swim is committed to challenging stereotypes and creating a more inclusive sporting landscape.
By providing a safe and inclusive space, LGBTQ+ sports help individuals to embrace their identities, to participate in the sports they love and stay healthy both physically and mentally.
